“The only thing standing between you and your…” – Jordan Belfort

"The only thing standing between you and your goal is the story you keep telling yourself as to why you can't achieve it"

We are responsible for anything we do or say.

For any action and inaction we take or avoid.

It seems to be someone else’s fault that we find ourselves in the positions we’re at.

As Belfort puts it, everything we tell ourselves as to why we can’t do things and how it will end up not working out, turns out to be the primary obstacle that actually prevent us from moving forward.

They are created by our own stories and beliefs.

Whether that story is true or not doesn’t matter because our brain listens to anything we say to ourselves and beliefs it fully.

I love writing and ever since creating this site I’ve told myself a couple of things which were neither true or false, because I hadn’t fully tried yet.

My brain, however, accepted those things as true and I ended up believing it.

Things like “I’m not good enough”, “I don’t have enough time” and “Nobody will be interested in what I have to say” ended up being mental barriers to me which I had a hard time to get past.

Despite me loving to write, these barriers took precedence and scared me away from taking action.

This behavior continued for as long as I kept telling myself those very same things.

By the help of some inspiring people, I managed to realize that the mindset I had developed would lead me to places I didn’t want to go to.

I realized that all those thoughts to myself that I’m never going to succeed was in fact the only barriers I had to get past.

They were the only obstacles in my way and stopping from achieving my fullest potential in life.

Instead I started telling myself positive aspirations that would cheer me on and teach myself that everything that ends up happening is a small step in the correct direction, rather than a huge step back.

“I have something worth sharing”.

“I can make time for my desires”.

By consistently working towards my goals, I would improve on my writing skills each time.

As we can see, the way we talk to ourselves impacts our behaviors massively.

If we continue to be negative and tell ourselves it’s not worth trying, then it probably won’t be worth trying because we’ve already set us up for failure.

But if we instead start giving ourselves all the reasons for why will succeed, then we will work towards that thing in a different way.

The key to overcome the barriers created by ourselves is to shift our mindsets into being positive and being aware of any negative obstacles coming our way.

Stop stopping yourself.
