Imagine you wake up tomorrow and everything you’ve ever dreamt of became a reality.
And if you’re saying you want a bigger bank account that’s alright, but then I want you to think of all the things you could suddenly do with such bank account, instead of the money per say.
Your desired meals, activities, locations, people or anything else.
You get to spend the entire day that way.
What would your day look like?
Where would you wake up?
What would you do?
Perhaps you wake up besides your loved ones on an island far away from any civilization, just footsteps away from the stunning ocean.
You dive in for a morning swim before thinking about breakfast and all your problems is out of the world.
Or maybe you wake up at home with an empty schedule ready to be filled to the brim with stuff that you actually want to do.
It might finally be the right time to do the things you’ve always postponed because “life” got in the way.
After having spent that entire day, you’ll probably ask yourself something along the lines of:
“Why can’t my life always look like this?”
And if you don’t, then you’ll have to dream even bigger.
If you do however, then I’m asking you this instead:
Why don’t you live every day like that?
What is really stopping you from doing so?
What is taking your precious time away from you?
Work?
Kids?
It’s time to wake up from dreaming of it and start living like it.
Regardless of how your life looks, we all deserve to enjoy it.
Whatever reason you can find that’s stopping you from living how you actually want is the exact same thing that you should be stopping instead.
Be the one that’s stopping things instead of being the one stopped.
If that thing is your job, then there’s a couple of options, some of which are more difficult than others.
Before diving into them let me ask you this:
Why did you end up on this site and reading this post?
Probably because you feel like there’s got to be more to life.
Because you want your life to unfold in a different way than its currently doing.
Because you’re tired of the repetitive schedule.
I’ve basically given you every reason to not work.
But we all do need an income and that’s just how it is.
So, when you only have a few years remaining of your life and look back on everything that you’ve been doing with that life, what is it that you’re going to see?
Is it going to be how you spent all your time and energy on working and missing out on your kids growing up?
Missing out on spending time with your family?
Missing out on spending time with the ones who raised you, your parents?
Missing out on doing anything that you’ve always wanted to do?
Are you going to see a looong list of things that you’ve missed out on?
Is it going to be filled with tons of regret and inactions?
Or are you going to see a loooong list of things you’re proud you did?
Proud of living a life where you actually took advantage of your time.
Where you acted on any ideas that came to your mind, despite it being your biggest fears.
Whatever your future self is going to see, is because of what you’re about to do today, tomorrow and every single day moving forward.
Let’s now decide which one of the lists you’re going to see and let’s now start living up to it.
What is it then that sucks up all your time and energy and distracts you from living your life?
The situation that most of us find ourselves in is, working.
We’re in debt money wise and we’re in debt time wise.
Your money debt might be your home and time wise it’s your job.
You’re putting in your time on a job to finance your financial debts.
It’s a never-ending loop which means we simply can’t stop working.
We all need an income, that’s for sure, and to get an income the easiest thing to do is offer our time at a job and in turn get paid with money.
What we don’t need however is putting in huge amounts of that time for only a tiny piece of what we’re generating for the company.
The more hours and dedication we put in does not matter, in our boss’ eyes we’re just a cog in a wheel and our salary remains the same.
Why do we find ourselves constantly putting endless of hours into working to only get a small piece of the cake?
Well, we’re expected to do it.
If we don’t, they’ll just find someone else to do it instead.
The one’s in charge don’t want to do the work themselves and end up hiring people to do it for them.
Since we are this vulnerable and can easily be replaced, we feel the need to put in more work to show our worth to the company.
Our free time decrease, our salary stay the same, but at least we get to keep our “safe” job, for now.
I can’t in my wildest dreams see how our time is essentially worth less.
We thankfully have the option to choose what we end up working with.
Working for a new and innovative company might feel like a prestigious and fun thing to do.
Working at a job with a higher salary might seem like a smart thing to do.
Working at a company that’s been in business for eternity already might feel like a safe thing to do.
Working for a place with a fixed schedule and salary might feel like you’re doing something right.
But what if I tell you that these scenarios might not be as safe or smart to pursue as they seem.
They might not fully align with how you want your life to pan out.
They could potentially become the very exact reason that lead to us to missing out on our lives instead of fulfilling them.
There certainly are a lot of different jobs to choose from and we certainly won’t be accepted into all of them.
One option is to create our own job and our own business, but that’s easier said than done.
Another could be to find a job that actually align with how we want to live our lives.
I chose my job because it offered immense freedom with time where I decide when to work and when to not work.
I have another example in mind which is very underrated and you’re probably not going like it.
But it offers the opportunity of control.
Appointment setter, a sales job essentially.
We all know how disturbing a seller calling us can be and it may not seem like the flashiest job but do me a favor and think about it for a second.
We control how we work, when we work, and sometimes even where we work, how much we earn and how little we earn because it’s based on commission.
We can work less but smarter and still earn more.
Why wouldn’t anyone want this?
There’s a ton more underrated jobs, which are screaming for personnel and that’s often times safer than anything else, but no one seems to be wanting them.
Because they simply get looked down upon by society.
There will always be demand for a plumber and electrician but no one’s willing to become one even though they can be very high paying jobs with lots of self-control and security.
This wasn’t meant to become a ramble on where to work and where not to work but I want you to realize that working is what takes most of our time away from us.
Most jobs require a lot of time to be put in and offer no control at all with extremely high expectations.
Yet those are the ones people tend to stick to.
But if we can control our job, we essentially control every aspect of our life.
And if we control every aspect of our lives, there’s nothing really stopping us from living it fully, right?
And by living our lives fully, we might not have to look at the sad list of things we’ve missed out on in life when it comes to a close.
We get to squeeze as much out of our time as we want and there’s no one in the way stopping us.
We get to decide which roads to take and can easily choose the ones that will lead us to a life we truly enjoy living.
But with this one obstacle in the way – which restricts us in basically every aspect of life and which we have chosen ourselves – our story will not turn out the way we expect.
This is what we all call the safe approach to life?
Someone else controlling what we do and when, where we do it and how, and what we get from doing it.
Time, location and financially.
Sadly, the only thing we really get from it is a looong list of things we couldn’t do and a ton of regret from not taking advantage of our time.
Our job is what makes or breaks our life.
It’s either going to fulfill it or neglect it.
Being stuck behind the same screen, on the same desk and with the same people all day and every day is what makes us feel stuck in life as well.
Taking up a lot of our time and energy even after working hours, they are the reason our lives become the same repetitive loop.
Money-wise they may feel secure but timewise they’re the reason we’re not living the way we want to.
Our lives is a race against the clock which can’t be won.
It expires whenever it feels like.
But what counts as a win?
Maybe we can shift our perspective of what a win really is?
I would say having as much control as possible of OUR OWN LIVES is the only win we need.
Most people tend to spend their race with a car that’s missing a steering wheel and then wonder what went wrong.
We all know how driving a car without any steering is practically impossible, yet most of us still decide to live their lives that way.
Perhaps we should stop trying to beat the time and instead focus on winning ourselves back.
It’s scary to switch from a seemingly safe job to a seemingly unsafe job, but isn’t it scarier to risk missing out on life entirely?
Face fears, remove obstacles and be honest to yourself.
Is whatever you’re about to do today actually aligned with how you want to live?
Give yourself what you really need in life – and start squeezing the living shit out of it.
