I wake up a regular day, put on a blindfold and jump in my grey Volvo…
I back out the driveway and head towards the highway.
It’s a bright and warm summer day and I have no destination in mind.
Nothing at all.
Just to see where I end up.
How far do you think I would get?
I probably wouldn’t even make it to the car to be fair.
It’s not very practical driving while literally being blind, is it?
But somehow that doesn’t apply to life…
We live our lives blindfolded.
We don’t know where we’re going.

I have just graduated from high school.
Summer recently arrived and everyone’s happy.
Everyone celebrates at the same time and for the same reason.
They’re free.
No more school.
A new chapter in their lives.
But I never understood the joy in this.
Because what awaits everyone is the very same thing – a looong career of working.
I wasn’t happy.
I was very lost.
I didn’t enjoy the moment.
I almost didn’t even celebrate it.
I realized this was just the beginning of something worse…
And one thing I still don’t get is, most people are going to university anyway, so school isn’t really over.
I don’t know, there’s just something about it that bothers me.
Maybe it’s the illusion that we’re finally free when in reality all we get less freedom.
Maybe we can finally start working our way to that dream job, without any stupid junk and filler subjects.
What’s really the problem?
Well, we’re all happy and enjoying ourselves because we think we’re finally free.
We don’t realize we’ve set ourselves up for something we don’t have control over nor the answer to why we’re doing it.
We very quickly miss out on the most important thing according to me…
You guessed it… purpose…
And everyone’s happy about this??
No one seems to be getting it.
They all strive for that flashy job that requires more effort and work to be put in than some other lower key job would.
Why?
To have a good work life…
To make more money…
What about the other part of life?
The part of living?
It just doesn’t make sense to me.
We get “rewarded” by choosing a fancy job over a fancy life.
And who wouldn’t want to be “rewarded”?
But those are the very same people we’ll find complaining later.
When it’s really only themselves that chose it in the first place.

Let’s reshape life and implement another way of living it.
With a clear what, why, how, and when.
What do you want in life?
Is it really to be financially free?
Is it to be happy?
Or are you satisfied with your current approach?
Either way, having something to strive for can help to guide us.
And… we can decide that ourselves!
I sat down, started thinking and wrote it down.
What is it really that I want in life?
How can I get there?
So, when taking the blindfold off and seeing what steps I took I could also see where I was headed.
And if the turn I was about to make won’t get me to my destination, there’s really no need to take it.
By seeing and knowing where to go, how to get there will automatically be an easier task.
By doing it blindly you’re setting yourself up for an adventure to let destiny decide it for you.
So, why not be the one deciding it yourself?
Where do you choose to go?
