My life was filled with obligations.
That’s what it felt like at least.
It’s what my brain told me.
“You must do this.”
“You have to do it like that.”
“You can’t do so.”
I was overwhelmed by all these “musts” my brain came up with, because it limited me from really living.
Everything felt like a burden, and I wanted to resist it all.
The more “musts” that came into my life, the less happy I was.
I told my brain to just shut up.
“I don’t HAVE TO do anything!”
I didn’t want my life to become my own prison.
I wanted to choose myself what I was going to do and not do.
But as long as I kept saying “I must” and “I have to”, my brain created resistance.
You know when someone tells you to do something, it’s not that encouraging, is it?
But when asked, and given a choice, suddenly we’re more than willing.
That’s exactly what happens internally in our bodies too.
So, to escape this mental prison we’ve created ourselves, all that needs changing is the way you talk.
Switch from “I HAVE to” > “I GET to”.
“I get to wake up early and start my day with purpose.”
“I get to move my body and feel stronger.”
“I get to eat foods that fuel my energy.”
Suddenly, it feels like a choice (even though it really was a choice all along) and the willingness to act has skyrocketed.
Notice whenever you say, “HAVE TO” and quickly rephrase yourself to “GET TO” and you’ll notice the difference in your mood.
At first, everything will feel uncomfortable.
But the longer you commit to this simple shift you’ll notice your situation starts changing.
Not because something else has changed, but because YOU have changed.
That’s what it’s all about.
When you start allowing your brain to perceive things as a choice, YOUR choice, you will be more grateful and happy about living the life you already have.
You’ll stop constantly wishing things were different and accept situations and things for what they are.
Let yourself be grateful instead of resistant and amazing energy will follow.
You GET TO control what your life becomes, now it’s time to do so.
