Distractions, distractions, distractions…

The endless supply of distractions does exactly that, distract us.

Distract us from our goals.

Distract us from our visions.

Distract us from our relationships.

Distract us from reality.

Distract us from life.

The distractions I’m talking about have become a major part of most peoples lives and probably aren’t looked like as a distraction.

You tell me that spending countless of hours on one thing which won’t get you anywhere productive, isn’t a distraction?

But what if I tell you that this thought is the main problem here.

Because social media, Netflix, YouTube and our digital tools have become part of everyday life for a lot of people, they of course aren’t going to look at it as if it were a distraction.

Why would they?

That would only force anxiety to hit them for wasting time.

And that’s kind of what I want to happen to be honest.

Get you to face your reality head on instead of escaping it.

So, what exactly are we distracted from when scrolling for endless of hours?

That’s for you to tell me.

Any goals you’re not progressing towards at all?

Any vision getting further and further away from you?

Anything really that seems so out of reach that you almost lose your mind trying to think of it but want it so bad you can’t stop thinking of it.

The reality of that thing is what we’re distracted from.

All the effort required to acquire it.

Effort which most of us aren’t willing to put in, because there are simply easier things to do in life, like watching a series on Netflix.

I promise that series won’t get you any closer to whatever it is that you want and dream of.

It’s a massive distraction which rewards your brain and that’s why you continuously keep doing it which in turn pulls our dreams and visions away from us.

There’s a way to stop this but you’re going to have to once and for all step out of that comfort zone of yours, because I promise you, it’s not comfortable.

But let me tell you, your life will not be comfortable at all in the long-run if you choose comfort now.

The choice is yours, perhaps a couple of months of discomfort for a lifetime of comfort.

It’s only going to be uncomfortable in the beginning because then you’ll have taught yourself to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.

And that’s where progress is made.

Put away that phone of yours and think of what it is exactly that you want to do with your life.

Then brainstorming ideas on how to get there and create yourself a plan accordingly.

What’s your life going to look like in 10, 15 years?

What is required from you everyday to achieve that thing?

Set up close deadlines for the most important tasks, like 2-3 months, to create a sense of urgency and get to working on it.

It’s that simple.

Social media and all of its co-distractors won’t like that however and are doing everything in their power to keep you on each platform respectively for as long as possible.

The easiest thing to do to avoid falling their hands completely, is to not even start those applications from the beginning.

By saying, “I’m just going to watch 1 episode of this”, you are in the hands of someone else.

But by saying “I’m going to watch that episode once I’ve completed these tasks”, you’re the one in charge.

It’s easy to fall in the thoughts of missing out on life while working towards a dream because of all the time and energy required.

That’s why it’s very important to do stuff for your own pleasure in the process.

So, if you really enjoy a series, don’t stop watching it entirely, just start watching it after the important tasks are completed for the day and with control.

If you give up everything you like, only to pursue one goal, is it really worth pursuing it?

I say no not at all.

To keep the motivation, reward yourself in the process.

Relax and live life in the process.

This is not something that gets done overnight, this is a long journey that ends when you die.

You have the power to shape this journey however you like and make it exciting and adventurous.

Please please please, use this power and do something good with it…

Because if not, someone else will decide your path for you, and that’s uncomfortable.
