What’s keeping us away from achieving our goals and desires in life?
What’s holding us back and making us do the wrong things?
We’re constantly forced upon endless streams of stimuli that all are seeking our fullest attention.
From social media posts to news headlines across the globe.
They all contribute to us worrying and feeling anxious and before we have time to let it settle, the next news article is already published.
This develops a sense of anxiety and fear within us because it’s simply overwhelming and uncontrollable.
Although it might be responsible for creating uncertainty, it’s not the only thing we tend to worry about.
What is it that we’re worrying so much about then?
The future.
The unknown.
We tend to think of something very distant when hearing the word future.
In fact, the next line you’re about to read will be done in the future.
And it could of course be more distant.
We’re always moving into the future though.
10 minutes from now, tomorrow, next week or even 10 years ahead.
They are all in the future and the further away, the more unpredictable.
What they have in common is that they’re all unknown to us.
We tend to spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out what might happen and what might not happen.
How to react when certain things go our way or when they don’t.
We’re often faced with something new to discover, feeling worried of what could go wrong.
Not knowing what to expect or how to react.
Not knowing how to avoid it or how to embrace it.
We simply don’t know yet.
They haven’t happened yet.
And we want answers.
We end up spending an awful lot of time mapping out viable scenarios that could happen and what to do if they do indeed happen.
We’re left with missing the now because we’re thinking so damn much of what could happen tomorrow.
A key player for this behavior is social medias.
It offers a space of endless dopamine where we can easily fall for the trap and scroll for hours.
We fear missing out on what’s next because we find it hard to deal with the unknown.
We keep going to get answers of what’s next.
All the information being bombarded our way gives the brain no time to let everything sink in and we’re left with feeling uncertain about the things that truly matter.
You see, we tend to spend a looooooot of time worrying on things that is really out of our own control.
In turn we miss out on living and enjoying the things we actually have control over.
Things that are happening now and not potentially later.
We miss out on living as great of a life as we possibly can.
We miss out on being fully present in the moment.
We miss out on spending quality time with our closest people.
The list of things we’re missing out on because we’re worrying so much is truly endless, but that very same list also gives us every single reason as to why we need to stop worrying, so we can avoid missing out on these things.
I wrote such a list for myself and included every single thing I could potentially miss out on by worrying too much and realized that basically my entire life was on the line.
Worrying can be both the start and the end of a journey.
Isn’t it sad how most of us lets it become the end before even starting?
Before even giving things a worthy shot.
Worrying is what stops most of us from living.
Let it be the start for you.
